New music Vs old music Empty New music Vs old music

Post by Stray Tue Jun 28, 2011 3:11 pm

I keep coming across this on other hardcore forums. The old school guys don't like the new stuff. The new school don't like the old. People don't like or simply won't listen to music just because of when it's made.

So.... 2 questions. Are you an old school head or a new gen? And what's wrong with liking music simply because it's good and not when it was made?

I'm both lol. I grew up in the 90's listening to break beat stuff, happy stuff, bouncy stuff, freeform and even makina lol; but all music progresses and you've got to move with it.

Some new tunes are shit, but I do with them what I do with the old shit ones - don't listen to them!

Certainly nothing wrong with listening to good music no matter how old; for some ppl tho, older tunes will remind them of their 1st experience with that music and it's a feeling they dont want to lose.

Honestly I don't really care whether music was written in the middle ages or 2 minutes ago. If there's something I can listen to that really catches my ear and makes me happy, it doesn't matter. All that matters is if the production is good enough.

I'm glad someone people feel the same way. I mean, there are certain older tracks then when I hear them I get a feeling a new song will never give me, but it's not because of the quality of the song. It's because it reminds me of an experience that I had and now I'm a bit older and have a fam I don't hear the song in the same "state of mind" at the front of a rave like I might have with the older track.

But good music is good music, I don't give a fuck when it's made. The new wave of Freeform producers are still pushing boundaries and making quality tunes, and as long as they do I'll still buy and crank em Razz

I've heard a track that is a newskool take on some oldskool hardcore classics and it sounds ok, but I guess the nu-skool sound is supposed to have a better quality bass because of the newer technology. However Oldskool tunes created in 1995-96 era were of a very good standard. I love the Summertime Rave!

Ive only found freeform very recently so i dont really know what is new or old. Im guessing some of the stuff people said in the top 10 thread is old though, and i liked it all, so while i am new school i can still apreciate the old stuff.

Underground (old) music had much more feeling then the music we have today. Sure the sound quality has improved 500% but the ideas have downgraded, simply because leading genres make A LOT of money and many artists today are 'selling themselves' - making tracks as quickly as they can just to sell them.
The music today has orientated to percussion (very repetitive), good melodies take time and effort - but that's just my opinion. Rolling Eyes

Really hope better days are coming with quality music.

Lol check out this shit - its awesome Wink http://soundcloud.com/binaryshine/toytown-reeses-k12-bootleg

Anyways, in answer to the question:

I love music, whether it be from 1857 or 2011. If a tune is good, its good. In terms of music progression, i tend to prefer older Freeform, sorta 04-07 generally. The era where (finnish) freeform really came into its own Smile

Date doesnt bother me. Obviously there are variances in style, but as Dyzy said, if a tunes good, its good. I enjoy plenty from all eras.

Either for me. I love classic hard trance a lot more than the newer stuff but with freeform i'm firmly in the middle. There's amazing classics and amazing new tracks =)

I guess I'm a bit of both; I love the older freeform stuff from the likes of Helix, Fury, Eclipse, but the amount of quality new stuff coming out has really picked up after a dip for a couple of years; I'd be keen to see the newer stuff moving further away from the mainstream hardcore sound...
