Other Genre Favourites?

Post by archefluxx on Tue Jul 05, 2011 1:57 am

I'm a colossal fan of Feeder. Its a band that really relates and connects with me, and I cant think of a track I haven't enjoyed from them Countless of albums and EPs in my garage.

I'm a fan of most genres but the one that I enjoy perhaps the most, and probably more than hardcore is Drum & Bass. Liquid stuff from Hospital and Med School in particular.

London Elektricity - Just One Second (Apex Remix)
Joe Syntax - Expectra
Genetic Bros - Uplifting
Fred V - Simple Beginnings

Those are some examples of my favourite tracks according to my Itunes haha

I'm a pretty big fan of DnB as well...but that liquid stuff just doesn't do it for me. I like the opposite ends of the 'hardness' spectrum (both ambient and techstep/neurofunk) but not the middle.

Here's what I mean...

Larrge - The Truth
Aural Imbalance - Keizen

I love certain types of D&B, Techstep/Neurofunk is pretty badass and liquid, i really like liquid Smile

I'm also a massive Trance fiend. Most kinds of Trance do it for me Wink Especially Dash Berlin at the moment, love that guy...

I also listen to the occasional bit of Dubstep. I adore Breaks, the dirtier the better, think Firefarm & Specimen A. Electro House, like Far Too Loud / Skrillex.

UK Hardcore still holds a special place in my heart, not that i follow it or go to any events... Specifically for me is 2005-2007/8. Bonkers 13, 14 & 15. Gotta love the epic layer of inch thick cheddar that goes ontop of those riffs. lol Smile

So yeah - Trance/Breaks for me Smile

Dyzphazia, you have pretty much same taste that i have Smile

Harder dnb really smashes me on the dance floor (not as well as good freeform does) but still.
Dnb is great to listen when you are moving.. it's the rhytm..

Like trance very much.. it's mostly for those days that my mind is floating and im moving on the nature.

Sparkly sounding dupstep is great when clock is 4am Very Happy

Also i like listen moviesoundtracks and that kinda stuff as a backgroundmusic when i need to focus to do something else than listen the music.

Apart from Freeform I love....

DNB. Love the rock influenced stuff. Something about DNB with that rock or metal flavor do it for me. One of my fav tracks of all time is Pendulum - Painkiller.

Gabber - Love to finish sets with the hard stuff. 3 or so songs at the end of a Freeform set just end it on that evil note.

Psy - Very emotional stuff. Headfuck music at it's best. All styles, like my Psytrance for chilling, Psy-breaks for the acid funk, and Psycore mixes so damn well into freeform to mix things up.

Australian Hip Hop - OK, admission time. I used to be a try hard homie. Got over the gangsta, "I kill everyone" type of thing, but the Australian stuff is stuff I can relate to. Link to a mates new track:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkovIbrDdTE

When I was younger I used to rap with this guy and his bro, in a group called Rhyme Ministers. Gave up the MCing when I found dance music though. Good to see Hayden doing well for himself, he's come leaps and bounds since our stoned raps during free period Razz

Anything that is good, it really doesn't matter what genre it is for me. I think you can take inspiration from everywhere.

A few things though.

Really banging Metal, like Lamb of God, Mastodon, partial to a bit of SKindred as well.

I was heavily into mid 90's Indie music back in the day, a lot of good bands knocking about then, maybe the genre was too saturated. But some colossal albums came out then, particular faves; Radiohead, Blur, Mansun, Kula Shaker, 3 Colours Red, Supergrass, Primal Scream, and many more obscure.

First dance music I DJed was Hardhouse, some top notch stuff around the turn of the century. Vicious Circle's label, anything by Ilogik, Lab 4. Ali Wilson - Society is one of my all time favourite tunes, dark but uplifiting and epic, one of the main things I love about Freeform.

Classical music, the dark stuff, Wagner, Bach, all good.

Hip Hop, stuff where people aren't chatting complete bollocks. I like the Rawkus crew, Mos Def, Pharaohe Monch, Talib Kweli. Early Wutang Kicks ass. Also get on Deltron 3030, unbelievable album.

And other bits and bobs, I could go on for a long time, but I'm sure you're already quite bored.

Peace!

Hard trance. mmmm mmmmmm
This is what got me into dance music (alongside the prodigy and chemical brothers) and some of the classic trance stuff ( atb - til i come (sequential one remix) is literally THE definition of progression for me Wink)
Recently though I've been getting into drum and bass in a big big way. Black Sun Empire, State of Mind are really giving me a rock on atm!
Also check this tune out, we started our set at freeformation with this and it went off big time =)
