The VST's that you depend on...
For me?
Nexus. Yep, as much as I hate it, and I know its a shitty sampler, its an easy way to map out and plan a song using simple wav's. Its also good for layering pianos or pads.
Sylenth1. The leads I'm getting out of it are beautiful, and I love the VST's power and ability to create a huge spectrum of sound.
Oxford Limiter. Fantastic resource when working with Percussion in my opinion.

Anything Oxford Sonnox is the shizzle to be honest. Their Inflator is amazing too
Re: The VST's that you depend on...
See I have the Inflator but never use it. I imagine its handy with acid lines?

Its awesome for pretty much anything.
Remember though, i'm not a producer. I've only dabbled with production.
Started a Freeform remix of Cosmic Gate - Fire Wire ages ago, but my PC i was working on it on died horribly. So i lost all of my samples and self-made kicks and what not. So just kinda gave up on the idea... I have the whole VST pack though, drop me a message if you want them

For most sounds I either use FM8 (which is annoying because there's no envelope modulation -_-) or Massive. For pads I have a lot more leeway.

Actually, I think the guys who jump into these threads and list off mastering tools are clearly the most serious about production. I haven't even gotten to the mastering stage yet.

Since starting to use Logic it would now seem I could not do without pretty much any of the factory audio units and effects it ships with.
They are simply amazing, love them all.
They have improved my production 10 fold.
